X - " the Cross "

Today the North exit from the "Cross" ( Rigg Street ) looks completely different from the early part of the last century, mainly, the disappearance of the Royal Hotel which was done to widen the width of Rigg Street. The other exits of Lainshaw Street, Main Street and The Vennel remain, in the main, unaltered.

The start of Rigg Street is being currently modernised by the introduction of planters, a new town sign and a new town “ Hub” building allowing residents to find out what’s happening in the town etc. etc.
