Our Society offers an excellent Genealogy research facility as distinct from an Ancestry heritage search, the main differences being Genealogy is the study of family history and lineage tracing the relationships between individuals and Ancestry on the other hand refers to a person's generic heritage determined through DNA testing. Genealogy involves researching and documenting family history through records such as birth and death certificates, census records and marriage certificates, this information is used to create family trees and trace family connections. Genealogists may also use historical records and other sources to gain insights into their ancestors lives, Ancestry on the other hand is determined through genetic testing which analyses a person's DNA to determine their ethnic makeup and familiar connections, allowing information to identify distant relatives and uncover previously unknown family connections.
While both Genealogy and Ancestry are focused on understanding family history we approach the topic from different angles, Genealogy is focused on the documentation and study of family relationships while Ancestry is focused on the genetic makeup and heritage of an individual.
