The town has held the annual Bonnet Guild Festival in June since 1933. The committee was named “The Bonnet Guild” after the 17th century “Bonnet Court of Corsehill”. There were so many proposals put forward that a three day festival was decided upon.
The events programme included a concert and presentation of colours on the Thursday; a fancy dress parade, war memorial visit and sports meeting on the Saturday. They decided to crown a Corsehill Queen and chose a schoolgirl from Stewarton Parish.
The Queens court consists of six Maids of Honour, First and Second courtiers, the Herald, Sword bearer, Sceptre bearer, Crown bearer, Admiral, Queen’s Highlander and two Pages. The parade was led by a Deacon and two Bailies. Due to the popularity and success of the festival a unanimous decision was made to hold it annually.
